Chapin Town Hall

Mayor's Message

Greetings,

One of the goals of our administration is to provide quality service to our customers. Recently, the Summer brought unexpected precipitation to our area. There were a number of rain events that affected our area over a very short period of time. These rain events put pressure on our current system and brought to light a number of issues that need to be addressed quickly. The rain events resulted in a pipe failures in the two 12” force mains that currently deliver all the wastewater from the Town’s sewer service area to the Wastewater treatment plant.

Even though we were aware of the aging facilities and the upkeep and maintenance that they require, the rain events really emphasized a sense of urgency for an alternative piping system. For several months, we have contemplated developing a Sewer Master Plan and an East Chapin Sewer Force Main Project.

The Sewer Master Plan would help identify priorities for the Utilities department and aging facilities that need attention. It will also look at areas that are in the Town of Chapin’s sewer service area currently without sewer service and will provide locations and sizes of sewer collector lines and pump stations in order to provide sewer service to those areas if the need arises. The Force Main project would provide an alternative piping system that could transport most if not all the wastewater to the WWTP in the case of a major pipe failure.

We are looking forward to our Annual Chapin Labor Day event held on Monday, September 3. Our Public Affairs Director has created several new features designed to increase your enjoyment of the biggest celebration in Chapin. We hope to see our entire community at the event.

Best regards,

Mayor David Knight
