The Chapin Police Department announced that Sgt. John W. “Bill” Finch was sworn in Monday as the department’s new Community Services Director.

“I am happy that we were able to bring Bill Finch into our department to lead community services and public safety outreach in Chapin,” said Chief of Police Seth Zeigler. “Bill has a strong record as a law enforcement professional with more than 26 years of experience. And he will be a familiar face to our Chapin residents and businesses having served most recently as the Chapin District Sergeant for Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.”

A Chapin native and graduate of Chapin High School, Finch worked for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department for more than 20 years, where he moved up the ranks from a Patrol Deputy, Resident Deputy, K-9 Handler in Chapin District, Master Deputy, to Patrol Sergeant. He also served as the Suppression Team Leader, Dive Team member and Mounted Patrol. Finch spent three-and-a-half years with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and six years as a Military Police Officer for the United States Army National Guard.
