[ARCHIVED] Council approves 2015 Town Audit

Chapin Town Council voted to approve the 2015 Town Audit of its financial records at a special called meeting on May 25, 2016. The audit was completed in three months and showed that the town was making consistent improvements in its financial reporting, internal controls and financial status.

The audit had been presented at the council's regular May 17th meeting by CPA Matt Brown. He reinforced that the town was making continual improvements in its financial housekeeping since he conducted his first audit for the town's 2012 audit. When council was presented an opportunity to ask questions or make comments, none were made, and the resulting vote was a 2-2 tie with Mayor Skip Wilson and Gregg White voting to approve, and council members Kay Hollis and Mike Clonts voting against the motion. Robbie Frick was not in attendance due to illness.

The Mayor asked the council members to conduct further review and follow up with Carl Stevens, director of finance, with any questions and concerns that prevented them from approving the audit. On Monday, he called for a special meeting on Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm to reconsider the matter.

At the special called meeting, Clonts asked a question related to the town's net financial position which Stevens answered. With no further questions or comments, the council voted 4 to 1 to approve the audit, with Ms. Hollis being the sole No vote.
