The Town of Chapin will hold its 16th annual Community of Character Service Day on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Started by former Mayor Stan Shealy as a day to promote volunteerism and community service, the annual observance inspires people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in a variety of projects that benefit the local community.

“We are blessed to have so many active, generous and service-minded youth and adults in our town, and we use this spring observance as a positive reminder to others in surrounding communities of what can and does happen when all segments of our community work together,” said Chapin Mayor Skip Wilson.

To kick off this year’s Community Service Day weekend, the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held on Friday morning, April 15 at 7:30 am in the Community Room at Town Hall, featuring Christian comedienne Cherie Nettles, members of the Chapin faith community and students from Chapin High School participating in this annual program.

Then on Friday afternoon, Shred360 will be at Town Hall to accept paper and documents for secure destruction and recycling from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Chapin residents can bring up to five boxes of materials for free shredding. The last event held in February collected 10,000 pounds of paper.

On Saturday, April 16, there will be a THANK YOU Volunteers luncheon beginning at 12:00 pm in the Community Room at Town Hall. This lunch is the Town’s way to celebrate the accomplishments of the citizen volunteers and say thank you for taking time to make a difference and help others.

The Town likes to track the number of projects, volunteers and volunteer hours. As such, registration forms are available on the Town’s website (www.chapinsc.com) under the Community tab. Groups and individuals are encouraged to register their activity and return to Town Hall by April 1. Groups needing volunteers or project suggestions can note that on their forms.
