A draft version of the Planning Commission recommended UDO can be viewed HERE

  • What is the Unified Zoning and Development Ordinance?
The UDO is a consolidated document which contains all of the Town's land use and development requirements. The Unified Zoning and Development Ordinance (UDO) is adopted for the general purposes of guiding development in accordance with existing and future needs and promoting the public health, safety, convenience, order, appearance, prosperity, and general welfare.
  • Why does the Town need to update its zoning ordinance and zoning map?
As we are impacted by growth around the Town, updated zoning ordinances and zoning map will provide the policies needed to ensure appropriate and compatible development for our area.
  • How are the comprehensive plan and the UDO related?
The comprehensive plan serves as a long-range guide that establishes development related vision statements and action items. From the goals set forth in the comprehensive plan, Envision Chapin, the UDO serves as the implementation tool for many of these goals.
  • Who can I contact if I have questions about the UDO?
You can contact the Town Administrator, Nicholle Burroughs, at nburroughs@chapinsc.com or call 803.345.2444.
