Chapin Mayor Receives Quilt of Valor
On Friday, February 15, the American Legion Post 193 hosted an event to honor veterans in our area. Along with 10 other veterans, including a Pearl Harbor survivor, Mayor David Knight accepted a Quilt of Valor on behalf of his father who served in 1941.
During the ceremony local organizer Jodi Donnelly said the following as she read from a poem. “The ordinary fellow, who in times of war and strife, goes off to serve his country and offers up his life.” Our community is indebted to all those who have heard that call and sacrificed for our nation.
Quilts of Valor is a non-profit group that creates full-sized handmade quilts for those who’ve served. Organizers said that South Carolina gives out more Quilts of Valor than any other state. If you’re interested in volunteering or donating to their cause, you can find out more information here.
