Chapin Town Hall

Mayor's Message

Greetings,

During last week’s work session we announced the creation of the Community Engagement Council. The Engagement Council will provide a crucial opportunity for members of the Town Council and myself to receive input from community members in an open and relaxed atmosphere. Citizens will work directly with our elected officials and town employees to map out a unified vision for progress and create long term, viable solutions that will benefit the Chapin community.

We have worked hard over the past several months to establish a culture of inclusiveness where citizens truly feel like engaged participants in our local government. This initiative is an extension of those efforts creating a constructive dialogue with citizens and a deeper understanding of the greater considerations that have to be made as part of the decision making process.

As a first official meeting of the Community Engagement Council we will be participating in the On The Table movement in partnership with the Central Community Foundation.  On The Table is a day for residents throughout our area to come together and talk about ways to make our community more connected, dynamic, and opportunity-rich. The Town of Chapin will be hosting a meal time conversation at Town Hall with members of the community as part of this movement.

We know that big ideas can spring from small conversations and that people invest in what they help create. If you are interested in joining the Community Engagement Council or to be a part of the On The Table mealtime event, please contact Nicholle Burroughs at communications@chapinsc.com. We will be reaching out to various community leaders to ask for your input and assistance with this initiative. We are committed to bringing people together to create a more generous, vibrant, and engaged community.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Best regards,

Mayor David Knight

Explorers

Chapin Explorers

The South Carolina Association of Law Enforcement Explorers conference was underway this week in Lexington County. The Explorers program is for young adults who are 14-20 years old and interested in a potential career in law enforcement. Four explorers from the Chapin post participated in an active shooter scenario set in a school. Following the scenario two of the Chapin Explorers participated in a mock press conference. This conference offers a great hands on experience for our Explorers. We are proud of the Explorers from the Chapin post and congratulate them on their efforts this week.

The Town’s state of the art Wastewater Treatment Facility is currently under construction. The  greenfield project features a headworks facility, primary clarifier, splitter box, and drain pump station. Construction will require over 450 tons of reinforcing steel and 5,000 cubic yards of concrete, half of which will be poured for the new aeration basin. Completion is expected in mid-2019.
