Business license renewals

We appreciate our Chapin businesses! Just a friendly reminder that business licenses run a calendar year, ending December 31 each year. Renewal letters will be going out later this week. Once you are able to calculate your gross receipts for 2017, we encourage you to submit your renewal application as soon as possible. The deadline for renewals to avoid penalty is Monday, April 16, 2018.

Spreading Holiday Cheer

Mayor Skip Wilson is saying thank you to many of the community partners that assist the Town of Chapin throughout the year with a free Pizza Lunch. He is delivering pizzas to the Chapin Firefighters, Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies who cover Chapin and the employees at SCE&G who assist the town with their banners and Christmas decorations.

“We appreciate all these people do to help our community and wanted to share some Christmas spirit with them as a small token of our appreciation,” explained Mayor Wilson.

Utilities Director Andy Metts

Meet Andy Metts

Andy Metts joined the staff at Chapin Town Hall in October 2014 as the Utilities Director. He previously worked for Richland County for 28 years, starting as a sanitary engineer and working his way up to director of the utilities department.

A Chapin native, Metts graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in mechanical engineering. He holds numerous certifications, including Water Treatment Operator, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Operation, General Contractor and Construction Manager. He is active in the American Public Works Association, the Water Quality Association of South Carolina, and the Rural Water Association of South Carolina. He is also a member of the Central Midlands Environmental Planning Advisory Committee.

Metts attended Chapin High School, where he played football and served as student body president in 1977. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and is a classic car enthusiast.

Mark Your Calendars - January 25

The Chapin schools cluster will host a Community Forum on the Social and Emotional Well-being of Our Young People on Thursday, January 25 at 6:00 pm the Community Room at Town Hall. Each of the schools are developing plans to address the growing opioid epidemic that is not only affecting our nation but also our Chapin community. Representatives from the schools, law enforcement, mental health and pharmaceutical agencies will address issues being seen at each level of the education continuum and field questions from educators and the audience. Dr. Akil Ross will moderate the session. The entire Chapin community is invited to attend and learn how they can support our schools and our children.

New Council, Mayor installation

In case you missed it, there will be a new mayor and two new council members in 2018. Judge Gary Rinehart will swear in David Knight, Preston Baines and Al Koon at a special called meeting on Tuesday, January 2 at 6:00 pm at Chapin Town Hall. There will also be a public hearing prior to the meeting at 5:45 pm to review proposed ordinances related to historic preservation in Chapin.
