Hopefully we all make it through the 2017 Solar Eclipse safe and sound! I know we will have many visitors to the area for this rare occasion, and I trust that we will all do what we can as citizens and businesses to make them feel welcome and show our Chapin hospitality.
Last week I took time to go by the EmploySC Job Fair and visit with the company representatives that were there as well those impacted by the VC Summer shutdown. It was heartwarming to see people making connections and feel the positive energy of organizations reaching out to help our neighbors in this time of uncertainty. We have plenty of job information and other resources on our website and remind you of the events going on this week in Chapin. On Tuesday, there will be a Trade Skills Career Fair at Our Lady of the Lake from 11 am – 3 pm. Then on Thursday, we have a free Business Assessment and Planning Workshop for our Chapin business community from 8 – 10 am at Chapin Town Hall to assist business owners develop strategies to lessen the effects of this loss of a major employer in our area.
We are teaming up with Chapin High School next Friday, September 1 at 7 pm at the varsity football game to support for the families impacted by the shutdown. They will be selling #SCStrong bracelets for $5, and the proceeds will be directed to those agencies helping families. Let’s fill up Cecil Woolbright to cheer on the eagles as they take on Irmo High School and buy up those benefit bracelets.
It’s hard to believe that Labor Day is in two weeks! I hope you will come out to take part in some of the great events and activities planned during the course of the weekend. You can see the schedule of events on our website (www.chapinsc.com) and be sure to check out the Chapin Labor Day Facebook and Twitter pages for updates. We have the Labor Day programs available at Town Hall, the Chamber, and at many of the businesses which support our festival so be sure to pick one up prior to next weekend. And don’t forget your 2017 Heart of Lake Murray T-shirts. We have those for $15 a piece or two for $25. Get yours while supplies last!
Friday is the final day to file for the November 7th Chapin municipal election. I know we have several candidates who have already filed to run for council and mayor. The Town is exploring partners to host a Candidate Forum this fall so people can come out and meet everyone and hear what issues and plans they have for our community’s future. Be on the lookout for more details in the coming weeks.
