We’re looking forward to another Downtown Farmer’s Market this weekend. If you haven’t been to the market yet, I hope you will come down and check it out. There will be a worm composting demonstration, live music by Curt London and a variety of local growers, bakers, artisans and more will be on hand selling their meats, produce and other goodies. The town will also be collecting school supplies to assist Chapin We Care in support of our Chapin area students. Please consider bringing a few items to support this important school supply drive.
Last week, we found out that Chapin was listed in a report by LendEDU that recognized the 250 communities in all of the Southeast with the best average credit scores. Out of the thousands of towns in the Southeast, Chapin has one of the highest average credit scores, showing we have some of the most fiscally secure and responsible citizens. Using Experian's licensed dataset, LendEDU was able to analyze the average credit score of each town and city in the Southeast. Chapin came in at #45 for the region and in first place out of 15 South Carolina cities and towns that made the top 250.
Speaking of recognitions, congratulations to Molly Simms with RE/MAX Real Estate Consultants on recently being presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her exceptional sales performance. I also congratulate Walt Stuart on the opening of Southern Propane in Chapin on St. Peter’s Church Road. I attended the ribbon cutting for this new business last Thursday and am always pleased when we are able to expand our business network in Chapin.
Last year Billy Griffin approached me about rekindling the Chapin Hall of Fame, and I told him I would be happy for him to get that going again. He is working with a few past HOF inductees to review nomination criteria and solicit new nominations. We will host an induction reception on Sunday, November 12 at 3:00 pm in the Community Room at Town Hall. Be on the lookout for more details on the Hall of Fame in the weeks to come.
If you have not already done so, it’s time to reserve your space in the Chapin Labor Day Festival and Parade. We are four weeks away from our biggest event of the year, and we look forward to another fun, family-friendly event with a variety of activities for all ages to enjoy. Our friends at RE/MAX will have their hot air balloon photo booth in front of their office at 1303 Chapin Road. The Columbia Classic Chevy Club is helping us put on our annual Classic Car Show, and they expanded the number of trophies that will be given out this year. And Ellett Brothers has donated some great door prizes for that event. We have live music lined up for Sunday evening and Monday. The model railroad exhibit returns to the American Legion Post, and the Friends of the Chapin Library will take over our community room to sell all types of books, DVDs, videos and books on CD to support children and youth reading programs.
Of course, we are grateful to all our supporters, including Lexington Medical Center, Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative, Chapin Liquor, O’Leary Orthodontics, Publix, Morgan and Associates, Tipsy Toad Tavern, Z93 the Lake, Zestos of Chapin and Lexington County who provide vital financial support for this event. We also rely on the numerous vendors, parade participants, program advertisers, local businesses and volunteer organizations that help make Labor Day possible. Thank you for being involved and let’s have another great turnout!
