Last week I enjoyed meeting Crystal Morphis with Creative Economic Development Consulting. She came to tour Chapin and meet with our steering committee as part of our economic development strategic planning process. We got to talk about what’s great about our town and also what challenges we face, such as managing growth and creating jobs for our residents. She conducted a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) with the steering committee. In about two weeks we will have a community survey to share with you and encourage your feedback. I am looking forward to seeing how this planning proceeds and what great things we can work together on to make Chapin the best town it can be.
All the rains and storms of the week provided an unusual opportunity to help one of our small businesses. Chapin Yoga Studio was flooded Wednesday afternoon from the heavy storms, and the owners were scrambling to find an alternate location while their space was drying out. Christine Milling reached out to Karen Owens Wednesday evening, and upon confirming the community room’s availability, the yoga classes didn’t have to be cancelled. I am glad we were able to help one of our small businesses in their moment of need and appreciate the relationships we have with our business owners.
The heavy rains also impacted our utilities staff as several of our aging pump stations had issues. Our team worked long hours into the evening to make sure pumps were operating properly to avoid any disruptions in service. I want to thank our maintenance and operations guys for all their hard work – Richard Young, Jeff Smith, Eddie Gable, Matt Cameron and Russell Wright.
I was glad to participate in Anytime Fitness’ grand re-opening on Thursday afternoon. Their new facility is 5000 square feet with a dedicated workout room for fitness classes. They have some new machines and a hydromassage chair, too. I am grateful to Grant Wells for choosing to stay in Chapin to expand his business.
I want to congratulate all the Chapin area graduates and their parents. As school closes for the year, we are grateful for all our teachers, coaches, administrators and support staff for all they do to support our young people.
We also remember those who have given their lives for our freedom. God bless America!
