We continue to get positive comments about last week’s festival. We would like to thank a few additional groups for their help. The Community Emergency Response Team, also known as CERT, were helping our public safety officials along the parade route and around the festival, and we appreciate these public safety volunteers for their ongoing support. Thanks to Boy Scout Troop 870, the Justin Pepper Service Club members and our friends at American Legion Post 193 for their collective efforts to clean up the trash after the parade and festival. And thanks also to the Chapin High School Tennis team which helped run the parking lot formerly managed by the Chapin Lions Club.
It takes a village to put on a festival of this size, and if you would like to be part of next year’s planning, please contact Karen Owens at Town Hall to get your name on that committee. We welcome new ideas and feedback as we try to make the festival better every year.
I want to remind you of two important public meetings coming up. First, the engineers from Hussey Gay Bell will present the preliminary engineering report for our wastewater treatment plant on Thursday, September 15 at 5 pm at Town Hall. We welcome public comment as part of this public hearing. Then on Tuesday, September 20, prior to our regular Town Council meeting, representatives from Grimball-Cotterill will share information and seek public comment on the draft master plan for a town park at Town Hall. Their presentation will begin at 4:00 pm in the Community Room, and they will have stations set up for people to view the designs and provide feedback. I am very interested in hearing what people have to say about these renderings and how the council will react to them as well.
After the public meeting on the park, we will have our regular council meeting at 6:00 pm. We look forward to recognizing the winners of the Labor Day Parade as part of our meeting. We will also discuss some of the items we learned about at the planning session to see what priorities we want to set for the coming year. We welcome you to be part of the process and encourage you to attend our council meetings in person. If your schedule doesn’t permit coming to Town Hall, you can watch a replay of the meeting the following day on our website. It’s a great way to stay informed about what is going on in the town.
