Greetings, On March 19 I issued a proclamation declaring a state of emergency which threatens the health of our citizens in the Chapin Community, following a similar statewide declaration by Governor McMaster on March 13. Since then the Governor has issued approximately 20 additional Executive Orders relating to the Covid-19 pandemic. The issue has not subsided as yet, and the federal and state officials have stated that before the economy can safely reopen for business, a steady decline in positive diagnoses of the virus and related fatalities should be evident; as of today (April 30) there are 232 reported fatalities and 5881 positive cases in SC. However it has been speculated that nearly 85% of all related cases are unreported. Even so, there is considerable pressure by a portion of the public to rescind the restrictions sooner, apparently placing more emphasis on economics than public health. I believe that our Governor has taken a very thoughtful and reasoned approach to the pandemic, and has resisted release of most restrictions to date. However, some releases may be forthcoming as early as next week. We certainly are anxious for our local restaurants to reopen for meals, other than drive-through service. But it seems the facilities will need several days to roundup and retrain employees for the increased protection of staff and patrons, sanitize menus and tables, and rearrange seating areas for social distancing. Speaking of social distancing, I recommend that other retail facilities including grocery stores, hardware stores etc., keep in mind the Executive Orders to retain occupancy limits to 5 customers per 1000 sq. ft. In the real world this means that if the average aisles are 10' wide and 100 feet long that there be no more than 5 customers per aisle. It would also be very prudent for stores to direct one-way traffic with taped arrows in the aisles, as Charleston has done. Please stay safe and healthy. We will get through this unique and tragic event together. Mayor David Knight, Town of Chapin

Town of Chapin Unveils Senior Athlete BannersLining the streets of Columbia Ave. and Chapin Road you will notice the beautiful images of our #Chapinseniorathletes from the Spring Season. The Town of Chapin was proud to orchestrate this effort in partnership with the #ChapinEagleClub, without their financial support none of this would have been possible. A special thanks to our Director of Public Affairs, Nicholle Ogrodnick Burroughs, and Chris Tisdale for their coordination efforts.
Due to missing hardware, there are still a few more banners that need to be installed but they should all be up in a few days thanks to the expert assistance and customer service of Paper Pro Inc.
Our hope is that when you see your child, a neighbor, a colleague's athlete, or a grandchild you will be reminded of the resilience of our community and the pride we have in our people. Our senior athletes shouldn't have to miss out on a sports season they have worked so hard for and our senior class shouldn't have to miss out on so many important milestones. This is a little reminder that we support you and we are all #Chapinproud.

Chapin Downtown Farmer's MarketThe Chapin Downtown Farmer's Market is typically held the first Saturdays of the month from May through October in the 100 block of Clark Street. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we had to cancel our May market. We are currently planning for the June market. If you are interested in being a vendor please contact Nicholle Burroughs at communications@chapinsc.com.
The markets have exciting themes and free demonstrations designed to promote healthy eating and physical activity. We also plan to have prepared food vendors, live music, activities for kids and great SC grown produce and agriculture products.

Midlands GivesWe're five days away from Midlands Gives Day! This year, the need is great. The coronavirus pandemic has taken a major toll on our region’s nonprofits. Canceled fundraisers, a decline in donations from corporations and individuals, the absence of volunteers, and increased demand are taxing nonprofits' abilities to operate.
When you donate through Midlands Gives, those unrestricted dollars go directly to helping our local nonprofits overcome the COVID-19 crisis.
