The Town of Chapin is exploring the opportunity to host regular Weight Watcher meetings at Town Hall to help employees and citizens looking to improve their health in the New Year. The new Beyond the Scales program provides individuals with a personalized approach to promote weight loss and healthy lifestyle choices by providing a trained leader, powerful group support and access to an array of digital resources.
“We are working to help our employees focus on their health this year and have scheduled a number of activities, including a free health screening and an informational workshop about the health benefits provided through the State Health and Retirement programs known as PEBA (Public Employee Benefits Authority),” explained Karen Owens, director of communications for the town. “From a work perspective, implementing health and wellness programs are proactive approaches to improve employees’ health and performance and reduce lost work time. From a personal standpoint, my co-workers are like family. We want everyone to live healthy and fulfilling lives.”
In order to have a regular Weight Watchers’ workplace meeting, there need to be 20 consistent participants. Since the town only employs 22 people, opening the Weight Watchers meeting up to the larger community seemed like a no-brainer. “The closest meeting location is eight-and-a-half miles away in Irmo, which is not very convenient for our employees or residents,” Owens added.
Individuals interested in attending a Weight Watchers meeting at Chapin Town Hall should contact Owens at 575-8039 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Based on the interest, a meeting date and time will be established
